City of Grand Rapids Gets $500,000
March 31, 2009 by stevevolkers · Leave a Comment
It was announced this week that Grand Rapids is getting $500,000 to use toward foreclosure prevention. The money will be divvied up between the United Way and local agencies that deal with foreclosures.
This is both good and bad news. I think it is great that Grand Rapids is receiving something to help with the growing problem of foreclosures. There are many different reasons why a home can go into foreclosure, and most of them are sad, dealing with job losses and health issues.
Homeowners are not going to be the only ones to benefit from this. Some non-profit organizations will be receiving a portion of the money to rehab some of the abandoned homes around Grand Rapids.
What I do have a problem with is how easily Country Wide is getting off for the damage they have helped create within our community. Country Wide has made billions of dollars over the last 5 years selling very risky loans, and all they got is a slap on the wrist. I guess I am someone that would like to see companies in our great county being held more accountable for their actions; however, this doesn’t seem to be the case.
Thanks Mike Cox for trying, but I believe we could have done better. That’s just my opinion and you’re welcome to tell me yours by leaving a comment.
Check out some of the recent stories about the help Grand Rapids will be receiving.

Grand Rapids Real Estate Market really starting to heat up!!
March 22, 2009 by stevevolkers · Leave a Comment
I know the news says the housing market is terrible, but there are some very big signs of improvement. Maybe it’s just me, but I am having fun with it!
Interest rates are hitting unheard of rates. Today they are at a 50 year low putting them around 5%!!
Also, new buyers are seeing house prices at the lowest they have been in 10 years, and with $8000 in government stimulus money, this can not be a better time to buy a home.
Yes, it must seem like us Realtors are always saying it’s a great time to buy, but lets be honest, I can’t think of a better situation for a buyer to be in.
Sellers are also doing better! I have helped put together 3 deals in the last week, and all of them have been a win for both the buyers and the sellers. Last week I helped a buyer make an offer on a listing that attracted 6 offers within 3 days of it being listed, and it is going to sell for 15 thousand over list price! So, if that is not an indication that the Spring Real Estate Market in Grand Rapids is heating up I don’t know what is.
If your thinking of buying or selling let me know as I want to be out there working for you.
Deals are all around us!
What is going on with Interest Rate Down to 5% ?
March 22, 2009 by stevevolkers · Leave a Comment
Hey everyone. I’m not sure if you’ve notice what has been going on with the rates over the past couple days, but they are at 50 year lows!
Here is a quick blip from Josh Haywood, my mortgage guy at Met Life Home Loans.
“The Federal Reserve announced Wednesday March 18,2009 that over the course of 2009 that they will purchase an additional $750 Billion of mortgage backed securities in an effort to keep home loan rates low for new and move up buyers!! Interest rates are at 50 year lows which means home loans have the lowest cost per dollar financed ever!”
If your thinking about Refinancing or buying a home you can’t beat these rates!
