Byron Center Community
Byron Center is situated in southwest Kent County and provides access to Kent Trails, a 15-mile foot and biking trail trail that follows a retired railroad track. It runs mostly north and south, creating a green way to get to downtown with little traffic.
With easy access to US-131, M-6 and 84th Street, as well as downtown Byron Center, residents will have an easy commute no matter where they work. Parents will appreciate the award-winning Byron Center Schools.
The motto of Byron Center Schools is “Opening the Doors of Tomorrow for Students Today” and they work hard to accomplish this. There are two preschools, three elementary schools, one intermediate school, one middle school and one high school in the district, comprising 3500+ students. Several of these schools have been recognized as Blue Ribbon Schools for their excellence in education.
Countryside Elementary (K-4th)
In the information for the most recent school available (2007), Countryside recorded enrollment of 414 students with an attendance rate of 97%. Highlights from the school year include Reading Buddies, Autism Buddy Program, Career Day, School Carnival, Student Government, Reading Counts Program, 3rd & 4th Grade Choir, 3rd & 4th Grade Science Fair and Arts in the Schools.
Nickels Intermediate School (5th & 6th Grades)
Administrators and staff at Nickels work hard to encourage students to be the best they can be with specific goals to improve reading, writing and problem solving. Exciting extra events throughout the year include Geography and Spelling Bees, Student Congress, Club Choir, 5th Grade Trip to Kalamazoo Air Zoo and the 6th Grade Trip to Medieval Times and Brookfield Zoo.
Byron Center West Middle School (7th & 8th)
West middle has an “A” grade continually achieved on the Michigan Report Card. The school has just over 500 students, and the teaching staff has an average of 7.5 years of teaching experience. They focus on active parent involvement. Students can excel in Student Leadership Workshops, Extended Exploratory Workshops, National Junior Honor Society and Student Council.
