Caledonia Community
Caledonia School District — Information
The District Mission Statement for Caledonia School District reads “In pursuit of excellence, Caledonia Community Schools will empower and equip all persons to achieve their best by ensuring the highest quality systems for learning.” This emphasis is demonstrated through a low 19:1 teacher-student ratio and a focus on parental involvement. Administrators and staff have laid out a strategic plan for the district to guide the next three to five years. The key points of this strategic plan are: Educating and Preparing our Student Learners for the Future, Supporting and developing staff, utilizing the best technology, engaging our school community, evaluating our performance, sustaining our schools, Growing character – all curriculum activities, securing our schools.
The district is made up of Duncan Lake Early Childhood Center, 4 elementary schools, 2 middle schools and 2 high schools. Enrollment for the 2007-08 school year totaled 4, 031 for the district.
Curriculums are based around the Michigan Curriculum Frameworks. Local influences also add to the substance of the curriculum. Teachers and administrators engage in regular checks and discussions to make sure the high standards are upheld.
For elementary education the emphasis is on shared goals and a common curriculum for each respective grade level. At the middle school level the curriculum is organized around the themes of “exploration” and “skills”. Here students will cover all of the normal core classes as well as engage in six-week sessions that cover an organized introduction to computer skills and several elective classes, including art, band, choir and Spanish.
In high school the students are exposed to specific educational and career planning. They have the opportunity to take elective courses in the arts, business and applied technology, as well as on-the-job educational opportunities. Advanced classes, on-line learning and dual enrollment for college credit is also available for those who are interested.
